The WHO has created guidelines for good manufacturing practices for pharmaceutical products and modern medicine factories must adhere to these guidelines in order to meet international standards for pharmaceutical production. The guidelines are basic rules to ensure that the production is done is a way to avoid any quality problems by ensuring the departments, training, equipment, materials and facility all adhere to the basic requirements to product high quality products.

In every country the local government inspects the medicine factory to ensure it complies with local regulations while at the same time also conforms to the WHO guidelines.
