Vitamin K3 Injection is a sterile solution of Menadione Sodium Bisulphite in water for injection.
Vitamin K3 Injection is used for a range of naphthoquinone compounds which are necessary for the biosynthesis of blood clotting factors. It is used in the treatment and prevention of haemorrrhage associated with vitamin K deficiency.
Vitamin K3 Injection has been associated with the development of haemolytic anaemia, hyperbilirubinaemia, kericterus, and haemoglobinaemia. It is also been reported to cause haemolysis in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Allergic skin reactions have been reported following intramuscular injections.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
it may be given by intramuscular injection in doses of up to 25mg, repeated after 8-12 hours if necessary. In the treatment of haemorrhagic disease of the newborn it may be given in a does of 1mg intramuscualarly and, if necessary, further doses may be given every 8 hours.
